American Motors Corporation bought Kaiser mid-way through the 1970 model year. The only way to differentiate a "Kaiser" from an "AMC" is the VIN on the Kaiser reads "Kaiser Jeep", the AMC only reads "Jeep". I have owned this Jeep for 10 years with the intention of restoring it. It has been stored in my garage for the entirety of that time. Although it has the typical rusty areas associated with Jeeps of this era, I feel this is the perfect candidate for a restoration. This Jeep is equipped with the highly sought after "Dauntless" 235 CI V-6 engine. Kaiser actually sourced this engine from General Motors/Buick. So reliable is this engine, after AMC abandoned it for their own straight-6 in 1972, GM bought it back and continued to run it in Buicks until into the 1980's. Thus, upgraded components from newer Buick motors will retrofit to this motor easily. The previous owner indicated that the engine had been rebuilt by the previous, previous owner, but there is no way to verify. However, the engine is clean, does not leak, has a new exhaust and runs great. ISSUES: TRANSMISSION: The Jeep has been parked and up on blocks for the past 5 years due to the transmission. DON'T leave yet!! The transmission works great! The seals are dry rotted and worn out and the tranny won't hold any oil. ENGINE: In preparation to sell, I installed a new battery and attempted to start the motor. The engine cranked over fine and with some starter fluid and a little gas in the carb started right up and ran great. However, it would not stay running. I checked the fuel pump and it is functioning, so I suspect bad gas. BRAKES: Brake system could use refurbishing. As I indicated earlier, I feel this Jeep is an excellent restoration candidate. Does have a posi in rear end ET sreet tire and skinny’s in front inside is gutted but I haven’t missed with the timing so that’s what it needs.
